Material overview for self-sewn backpacks and bags: From robust 1000den Cordura and X-Pac for heavy-duty use to ultra-light Dyneema fabrics for weight minimalists. Find the right material for your MYOG project.
Coated fabrics are best suited for backpacks or bags. Depending on the intended use, the spectrum ranges from super strong and very robust to ultra-light, more delicate fabrics. The following overview serves as a guide and orientation. You still have to decide for yourself whether the fabrics are suitable for the intended use. | Ultra-light | Materials for bags, backpacks, and accessories where every gram counts (ultralight). Often insufficient for heavy everyday use, they can be used to make very lightweight backpacks, etc., which, when used with care, are durable thanks to the high quality of the materials.
