Insulation
An insulation made of down or synthetic fibers ensures through its enclosed air, a high degree of thermal insulation with low weight. Such an insulation is sewn as a filling between an outer and inner fabric or is filled into chambers. The slightly higher processing time is rewarded with a really con-vincing result: a very lightweight, comfortable and enormously warming garment or sleeping bag. Both down and synthetic fiber insulations are perfect for MYOG and sewing projects such as sleep-ing bags, quilts, insulated jackets, vests, coats or even trousers. Generally, down has the better weight-to-heat ratio, it is enormously compressible and very durable. However, with moisture down quickly loses its loft and thus its insulating property. In this respect, synthetic fibers have an ad-vantage: they also warm even in wet conditions, are generally easy to maintain and long-lasting in daily use.
