Product information
Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.66, 22g/sqm
Dyneema® Composite Fabric is a high-tech laminate that has its origins in sailing. It is manufactured using a process typical of sailcloth laminates: tear-resistant fibers are embedded between two thin, transparent polyester films. What makes Dyneema® Composite Fabric unique is the fiber itself-Dyneema® is rightly considered one of the strongest fibers in the world, combining extremely low weight with exceptionally high load-bearing capacity. The finished material is characterized by high tear resistance, minimal elongation (even when wet), and resistance to creasing, UV radiation, and chemicals. The versatility of the material depends largely on the amount of Dyneema® fiber used and the chosen backing materials. Typically, a transparent film is used on both sides, which adheres well and ensures reliable waterproofing.
Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.66 with a weight of 22 g/sqm, is an excellent all-around option at the lightest end of the weight spectrum. Thanks to a slightly thicker film on one side (0.18 mil instead of 0.08 mil), its abrasion resistance is higher than that of the lighter Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.55. As a result, Dyneema® Composite Fabric 0.66 is also suitable for applications involving slightly higher mechanical stress, such as lightweight packing bags, tent floors, and tent reinforcements, etc.
According to Avient, partially bio-circular raw materials are used in the production of the Dyneema® fibers employed in Dyneema® Composites. In this process, residual materials from the wood and pulp industries are incorporated into the raw material supply via a certified mass balance approach. Combined with the use of 100% renewable energy, greenhouse gas emissions during fiber production can be reduced compared to conventional HMPE. Avient reports a reduction of approximately 3.76 kg of CO2 equivalents per kilogram of Dyneema® fiber. According to the manufacturer, the technical properties of the fibers are equivalent to those of conventional Dyneema®. The bio-circular raw materials used are certified under the ISCC mass balance system.
