Breathable and Waterproof, 3-layer Laminates by the meter

3-layer laminates are known as high-quality outdoor rainwear. They are also called "hardshells" or "third lay-er." As the name suggests, it consists of three layers - an outer fabric, a thin membrane and lining, which are all laminated together into a thin fabric. Most commonly microporous or hydrophilic PU- or ePTFE- mem-branes are used therefore. The functioning is the same for both: water or rain drops are blocked, but mois-ture in the form of water vapor can escape to the outside. Due to the laminated layer of lining they are com-fortable to wear but they are usually a little firmer to the touch as a 2- or 2.5-layer laminate. 3-layer laminates are very stable and rucksack- compatible, highly breathable and have a small pack size.
