Dyneema® Composite Hybrid 3.2, 104g/sqm, 2nd choice
Dyneema® Composite Fabric is a high-tech laminate originally developed for the sailing industry. During production, tear-resistant fibers are embedded between two thin, transparent polyester films - a process typical of sailcloth laminates. What sets this material apart is the fiber itself: Dyneema® is widely regarded as one of the strongest fibers in the world, combining low weight with exceptionally high tensile strength. The material stands out for its high tear resistance, minimal stretch (even when wet), and resistance to creasing, UV exposure, and chemicals. The specific application depends on the amount of Dyneema® fiber used and the chosen carrier material. Typically, a transparent film is applied on both sides, allowing for easy bonding and ensuring high water resistance.
Dyneema® Composite Hybrid 3.2 is equipped with an additional layer of 50 denier polyester fabric on the outside of the fabric! This significantly increases abrasion resistance. The transparent film on the inside ensures high water resistance and is easy to bond. Thanks to the bidirectional Dyneema® fibers in between, the result is extremely tear-resistant and lightweight. With a reduced amount of Dyneema® fibers, Dyneema® Composite Hybrid 3.2 is the lightest Hybrid version at 104g/sqm, ideal for ultralight backpacks, daypacks, or accessory bags.
According to Avient, partially bio-circular raw materials are used in the production of the Dyneema® fibers used in Dyneema® Composites. In this process, residual materials from the wood and pulp industries are incorporated into the raw material supply chain through a certified mass balance approach. Combined with the use of 100% renewable energy, this reduces greenhouse gas emissions during fiber production compared to conventional HMPE. Avient reports a reduction of approximately 3.76 kg of CO2 equivalents per kilogram of Dyneema® fiber. According to the manufacturer, the technical properties of the fibers are identical to those of conventional Dyneema®. The bio-circular raw materials used are certified under the ISCC mass balance system.
