Impregnation
Most technical textiles receive a long-lasting impregnation directly from the manufacturer. After several washes and prolonged use, however, the impregnation wears off considerably. Impregnation ensures that drops of water bead up on the outside. This keeps the outer material dry. This is also important for the breathability of rainwear. As long as the drops roll off, moisture and warmth can better escape to the outside. If the impregnation no longer works, the outer fabric becomes soaked and impairs the function of the membrane. It is therefore advisable to refresh the impregnation every now and then. You can find more information about the individual impregnations and how to use them on the article pages.
