Water column

(also referred to as "hydrostatic head")

Measurement variable for determining waterproofness, especially for coated fabrics. The pressure at which the first drops pass through the fabric is measured. Specified in bar or mm. According to DIN, a fabric is considered waterproof if it can withstand a water column of 1300 mm.
