UHMW-PE
Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) is a high-strength fibre made from polyethylene. It is also known under the brand names Dyneema®, Spectra®, Ultra® and Tsunooga®.
The very long PE molecule chains result in a number of exciting properties:
- Very high (tensile) strength with low weight (more tensile than aramid or carbon fibres)
- Low water absorption
- High abrasion resistance
- UV resistant
- Very smooth (low friction or heat when slipping through knots or protective clothing)
The properties of UHMW-PE depend heavily on the molecular length or weight.
You can find our fabrics made of UHMW-PE here or in the view under the entry. These are often very high-quality materials from the outdoor industry. Currently, there are no other fabrics in this area that have a better strength-to-weight ratio. UHMW-PE is also used for ropes, workwear, sailing, climbing, medicine, jeans and motorsports. The production of fibre-reinforced plastics, also in combination with carbon fibres, is also possible.
