Elastan
Elastane (Spandex). Type of chemical fibre. Stretchable synthetic filaments made from at least 85% polyurethane. Usually multifilament yarns with high elastic stretch (up to 800%). Easy to dye, resistant to oxidation and ageing, easy to wash. Significantly lighter, more lightfast and thinner to process than rubber (elastodiene). Due to its moderate abrasion resistance, it is rarely used on its own but is usually combined with other fibres (e.g. wrapping yarn). Sensitive to high temperatures (> 45°C).
