Softshell
There is no universal definition for soft shell. The properties and constructions vary depending on the manufacturer and also the clothing manufacturer. At extremtextil, soft shell means highly functional, elastic fabrics with high wearing comfort for outdoor and sports clothing. All softshell materials have a relatively smooth, abrasion-resistant surface made of polyamide and a skin-friendly, fleecy or jersey lining on the inside. With softshells, the focus is on high water vapour transport, not waterproofing. There are versions with a membrane (high weather protection, lower breathability) and without a membrane (very high breathability, limited weather protection). The different material compositions cover a wide range of uses: mountaineering, climbing, skiing, trekking, hiking, etc. Thanks to their high breathability, thermal insulation and wind and water repellent properties, softshells are suitable for many weather conditions and can replace hardshell rain jackets or conventional fleece in many situations.
