Inspired by the 2400 Southwest Pack from HMG I built my "Heartbeat 50".The waterproof ultralight backpack comes without a carrying frame, so its weight is 640g on about 50l volume. To give the backpack stability on tour, the sleeping mat is used inside as a roll for support. Closing the backpack is done by Velcroing the opening together and then rolling it up.
The main compartment is made of X-Pac VX03 (140g/sqm) with black outside and white inside. Finding small items in the backpack is much easier because of the white color. The three outer pockets are made of elastic stretch nylon (70g/sqm). The seams are sealed with seamtape from the inside. Hip and shoulder straps are made of inelastic 3D mesh, 6mm thick. For the top of the shoulder straps I used this material in the 3mm thick version. Straps are sewn onto the hip belt in the MOLLE system to allow additional pockets to be attached. To attach a sternum bag, a buckle is integrated on top of each shoulder strap.
Thus, the Heartbeat 50 is part of a variable carrying system.
