Bikepacking bags made of X-Pac and Cordura

Colour-matched bag kit for a gravel bike

Hello extremtextil team :-)

I made a few things from my last order. Some of them were inspired by your gallery.

My bike is a BMC Urs and unfortunately, no bag really fit it well. My requirement for the new bags was maximum space use on the bike. I have a saddlebag from Ortlieb and I wanted to match my new bags to this. I decided to use X-Pac and Cordura and make the bags as waterproof as possible. For the padding, I used Soft and Stable with fleece as a soft lining. I recycled some of the material from old bags. The straps, buckles and nets come from rucksacks or other discarded items.

For the frame bag, I wanted a narrow compartment on one side and maximum packing volume on the other. The sides should be padded with Soft and Stable. I based the fastening system on Ortlieb.

My requirement for the front bag was that it should fit on the 'Jack the Rack' luggage rack and either hold all kinds of stuff for bikepacking or my SLR equipment when I go on a photo tour. I sewed a separate insert for this. Inside the bag, I attached Velcro for dividers and compartments for small items. The outer compartments are for things I want to have quick access to. I equipped the roll top with a valve for easier handling, and everything is secured with elastic cords and the Fidlock snap system. The patch on the front pocket is from a Hamburg label and is attached with Velcro. In my opinion, 'Rumbummeln Deluxe' is the perfect slogan for gravel biking.

For the handlebar bag, I took inspiration from Apidura. It is designed to hold my small camera, which I always carry with me. It also features the Fidlock Snap system and inside there are PE sheets that hold the shape and protect the camera. The whole thing was sealed with Seam Grip WP.

For the hip bag, I was inspired by instructions from bikepacking.com. I lined the inside completely with fleece and padded the areas where I wanted more support with Soft and Stable.

I hope that my sewing projects will inspire others. Thank you and best regards,
Bernd
