ECOPAK® EPLX400, recycling-backpack-laminate, 235g/sqm
ECOPAK™ from renowned US sail manufacturer Challenge Sailcloth is a backpack laminate made from 100% recycled polyester. Similar to a sailcloth laminate, this fabric laminates an outer fabric with a UV-stable, highly waterproof polyester film or rep together. The strong, blue CrossPly polyester fibres, which lie in a diamond shape between the layers, increase the tear resistance and prevent the material from stretching in all directions. The fibres also give ECOPAK™ its typical, technical look. In the EPLX versions, the smooth film is on the inside; in the EPX styles, a lining of 70den ripstop polyester has been laminated on. This additionally reinforces the fabric, e.g. at particularly stressed seams, and ensures a light interior in backpacks and bags.
When developing ECOPAK™, Challenge Sailcloth focused on sustainability in addition to performance:
- All components of the ECOPAK™ laminates are made from 100% recycled polyester. This means that metre for metre, over 20 plastic bottles are recycled and more than 450g of carbon dioxide is saved.
- Only FC-free C0 impregnations are used.
- No VOCs are used in the production of ECOPAK™, all adhesives are solvent-free
- Thanks to an innovative production process, energy-intensive drying processes are reduced during lamination
- ECOPAK™ lies very flat when cut and has a very uniform CrossPly fibre from edge to edge - this prevents waste when cutting to size
- The polyester outer fabric used is similarly abrasion resistant to other fabrics made of nylon
ECOPAK® EPLX400 combines a 400den recycled polyester with a matt, waterproof and UV-stable 0.5mm polyester film. In between, visible from the inside, are the blue CrossPly fibres at a 45° angle. The 400den recycled outer fabric of ECOPAK® EPLX400 is twice as abrasion resistant as conventional 420end nylon. Well suited for bags with a separate lining or as a stand-alone bag for high durability at low weight.
