Dacron, woven polyester sailcloth 170 MT, 170g/sqm
Original Dacron polyester, specially designed for our kite, sail, and kiteboarding customers. Dacron Surf Polyester 170 MT from Dimension Polyant is a woven canvas made from the brand-name fiber Dacron. It consists of densely woven polyester fibers that are fixed with resin, tempered, and sealed with a coating. This creates a fabric with very high tear resistance, abrasion resistance, and dimensional stability, as well as excellent UV and weather resistance. The fibers do not absorb moisture, which means that the fabric does not stretch and dries extremely quickly. Due to its construction and finish, the fabric has the firm, slightly stiff feel typical of Dacron and is completely windproof, but not waterproof.
Dacron is manufactured in many different versions, and this variant is particularly suitable for the following uses:
- Kites for kitesurfing: Many kite manufacturers use Dacron 170 MT for its quality and durability for leading edges, struts, and reinforcements of kite sails. The high pressure in the inflated tubes, frequent and sometimes violent contact with the ground and water, intense UV radiation, and transport tightly folded in a backpack place enormous demands on the quality of the material. It is suitable without restriction for the repair and self-construction of tube kites.
- Kites: Whether for stick kites, box kites, stunt kites, single-line kites, or two-line kites, Dacron can be used as a reinforcement material for areas subject to heavy wear.
- Windsurf sails: In combination with transparent monofilm or X-Ply, 170 MT Dacron can be used to manufacture high-quality windsurf sails. It is also very well suited for repairs or reinforcements on windsurf sails.
- Hang gliders and ultralight aircraft: For hang gliders, Dacron 170 MT can mainly be used for the leading edge, the sail, batten pockets, and reinforcements. For ultralight aircraft and trikes, you can use it to cover the wings and fuselage.
- Sails: As classic sailcloth, it can be used for the sails of smaller boats ( jollyboats, Optimists, Lasers, etc.) and as a genoa or jib (headsail). The 170 MT can also be used to make very good and colorful sails for beach sailboats. The typical cut is crosscut.
- Bags: Canvas bags do not always have to be made by upcycling or recycling old sails. Our Dacron is also ideal for this purpose. Unlike other fabrics such as Cordura or X-Pac, Dacron is stiffer, so even an empty bag retains its shape. Nevertheless, the fabric is flexible enough to allow the bag to be folded. With its lower weight, Dacron is also an alternative to the truck tarpaulin often used for sling bags.
