You need a permanently hole in your fabric to thread a cord through or you want simply a ventilation hole or the like? A simple and durable solution is the use of eyelets, which are available in different diameters within this category.

The eyelets can be reliably pressed into the fabric and have a round inner edge over which a cord can slide without much friction. We offer one and two-piece eyelets in proven Prym quality. The eyelets can be easily processed with the enclosed tool.
