In contrast to laminates with membranes, are here coatings responsible for making the fabric waterproof and breathable. The mechanism is in principle very similar. Rain does not get through, but water vapor can es-cape from the inside to the outside. The difference to a membrane is that coatings are applied liquidly to the outer layer. The values for the breathability are usually somewhat below those of the laminates. But as a reliable everyday raincoat or mud pants for children, they still perform very well. In the combination with Cordura as outer fabric it is a particularly abrasion-resistant, strong fabric for weatherproof clothing or rein-forcements. To ensure that the coating is not damaged and remains permanently waterproof, they should be lined. Seams can be sealed with the seamtape for coated fabrics.
