ECOPAK® EPLX1680, recycling-backpack-laminate, 417g/sqm

ECOPAK™ by Challenge Sailcloth is a backpack laminate made from 100% recycled polyester. Similar to a sailcloth laminate, this fabric laminates an outer fabric together with a UV-stable, highly waterproof polyester film or ripstop polyester. The strong, blue CrossPly polyester fibres lying in a diamond shape between the layers increase the tear resistance and prevent the material from stretching in all directions. In addition, the CrossPly fibres give ECOPAK™ its typical, technical look. In the EPLX versions, the smooth film is on the inside; in the EPX styles, a lining of 70den ripstop polyester has been laminated on. This lining additionally reinforces the fabric, e.g. at particularly stressed seams, and ensures a light interior in backpacks and bags. The area of use is determined by the strength of the outer fabric and the associated abrasion and tear resistance.

In developing ECOPAK™, Challenge Sailcloth focused on sustainability in addition to performance:

- All components of the ECOPAK™ laminates are made from 100% recycled polyester. This means that metre for metre, over 20 plastic bottles are recycled and more than 450g of carbon dioxide is saved.

- The outer fabric is made from REPREVE® yarns collected in the ocean, all other components are made from used PET bottles

- Only FC-free C0 impregnations are used.

- No VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are used in the production of ECOPAK™, all adhesives are solvent-free

- Thanks to an innovative production process, energy-intensive drying processes during lamination are reduced

- ECOPAK™ lies very flat when cut and has a very uniform CrossPly fibre from edge to edge - this prevents waste when cutting to size

- The polyester outer fabric used is similarly abrasion resistant to fabric made of nylon and is therefore very durable

- Because ECOPAK™ is made from 100% polyester, it is recyclable

ECOPAK® EPLX1680 combines a 1680den recycled polyester with a matt, waterproof and UV-stable 0.5mm polyester film. In between, visible from the inside, are the blue CrossPly fibres at a 45° angle. ECOPAK® EPLX1680 with its very strong, smooth ballistic outer fabric is suitable for all areas with very high abrasion, for example bag bottoms or heavy transport bags. Ballistic polyester impresses with a very high abrasion resistance, high tear strength and an appealingly smooth, glossy surface with a soft feel. Unfortunately, this appearance or weave is often accompanied by poor dimensional stability and low seam stability. Since with ECOPAK® the CrossPly fibers and the laminated film stabilize the fabric, these problems are minimized. Seams subject to very high punctual loads should nevertheless be reinforced by backing the seam.
