Making strong buckles is not difficult. Making light buckles is also not difficult. What is very difficult is making buckles that are both extremely strong and lightweight. This requires a new approach, as many of the processes used for conventional buckles simply cannot achieve this. In addition, the material only needs to be used where it is most needed.

With Austere's buckles, not only is weight kept to a minimum, but complexity is reduced wherever possible as these are potential points of failure. Where some companies use tiny pins and tight spacing, Austere tries to avoid these as they can get fouled by packed snow or jammed with sand.
