5. Porch zip, cover, linelocs and reinforcements
The zip can potentially experience a lot of stress!!
If the wind shifts during the night and blows straight at this side of the shelter for instance.
A highly-regarded cottage manufacturer in the USA uses a
similar design to that shown here to protect the zip.
Firstly, I went with a good strong zip from extremtextil.
Then I designed plastic press studs (with fabric reinforcements) to close the zip cover at the bottom and half-way up the zip. When closed this helps reduce stress on the zip.
The two linelocs share one peg when pulled tight this also
reduces stress. Then the small buckle is used to further reduce any stress that would try to pull the zip apart.
So far, this design has resisted some quite strong and turbulent winds. I am confident that even if the zip failed I would still be able to close the porch pretty securely.
